In 2016, I took a professional development class sponsored by Kamehameha Schools which focused on ancestry (mo’olelo) research. Our teacher, Kumu Ka`imipono Kaiwi, taught us that our mo`olelo consisted of the stories, traditions and practices of our ancestors, forming a link between the past and the present. With time, I uncovered the names of my ancestors going back ten generations. Along the way, I uncovered year-book photographs of my great-grandfather that my family had never before seen. These paintings are based on source images I uncovered during that research.
